Over an intense two days, teams are required to write, shoot, and edit a short film while adhering to strict guidelines. This year, our team, "The Freelancers," embraced this challenge in Cape Town and walked away with multiple awards, including Best Cinematographer, Best Producer, Best VFX, The Audience Award, and 2nd Runner Up for Best Film Overall. (Not to mention various Nominations)
The Challenge of the 48 Hour Film Project
Taking part in the 48 Hour Film Project is a massive undertaking that requires a unique blend of creativity and teamwork. Each team is assigned a genre, a character, a prop, and a mandatory line of dialogue. These constraints push creativity to new heights. Just this year, we were tasked with creating a film in the Mystery genre, while incorporating a character named “Mark or Mary Jacobs (Barber/Hairdresser),” a Cake and the line, “This is not your mothers house.”
The thrill of coming up with ideas, writing the script, and planning shots under time pressure is both overwhelming and exhilarating.
Communication was critical; through quick discussions and constant check-ins, we kept everyone aligned on our vision.
